Notes

  • Node notes:
    • NodeBuffaloGap - Troy requested a check on their network health for fantasy football.

      • Russell rebooted gateway and APs as they had been up for 6 months.
    • NodeAnnapurna - Ted has passed information on previous budget items for wiring to Ole to use in assembling the Umpqua grant request

  • Netgear E8450 - bug in BL2 (v2.9.X, Ted's) first-stage boot loader.
    • NAND flash issue in OpenWRT boot loader (if errors are found in factory partition, even if they would've been recoverable).
    • Failure mode requires pulling apart case and doing a serial recovery
    • Link to refurb: https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Networking-Wireless-Coverage-Parental/dp/B0998C9T97/?th=1

    • Why RussellSenior likes this: WIFI-6, ARM CPU, 2.5Gbps, stable OpenWRT support -- fairly modern, fairly cheap, fairly capable

    • Notes captured by TedBrunner:

      • Netgear Linksys AX3200 Wi-Fi 6 Router (N8450) * NOR - robust against error but 100k write limit
      • NAND - can ship with bad blocks, needs OS to
      • E8450 shipped with bl2 bootloader with a bug in v2.2-v2.9
      • boot can give up if it finds a block error
      • fix by serial cable and write into regions
      • need to boot first, laptop side tool
      • get into uboot, and in a UBI volume (has robustness layer)
      • then tftp bl2 blob and write to flash
      • new bl2 handles ELCC recovery work
      • refurb on Amazon ~$50
      • can install OpenWRT from web interface
      • ARM 64 multi core (not MIPS)
      • early on worked with OpenWRT, Russell has good experiences with it
      • fairly modern, cheap, capable
      • other router CUDY uses MIPS
  • Hardware donation - Bridgewave GE60 + mounting hardware, fiber interface
    • base support hardware (but no base pad)
    • 10/100 enet (PoE), GB fiber connector
    • Russell looking to offload for someone that could use
    • Operate as a bi-directional pair (blue/red), missing some parts
