Notes

  • Burritos and beer were obtained.
  • Russell is progressing in negotiations with CenturyLink to find a bill that agrees with the offer he was given.

  • Alex brought a Banana Pi to show. It has a 2 core ARM, plus 1GB RAM. He worked with Russell on building OpenWRT to circumvent a boot problem.
  • Discussion of the limitations of radio based networking in a city: lack of available B/W, deciduous trees, power leak from TX to RX antennae, power spread from direction antennae. The desirability of supplimental wired networking was not in question. Techniques to re-use bandwidth were offered as counter arguments.
  • Discussion of cjdns advantages - encrypted networking, and public hash key in address for address authentication.
  • Performance of cjdns. Ran iperf speed test between Ubiquiti NetEdge and Banana Pi all running cjdns. Saw 10Mbps when expected 60Mbps - suspect encryption demands on NetEdge.

  • Schedule install at Eastbank Saloon. Maybe next wednesday as a work night?
  • Future install at VZA home. Two interior routers, and 3 exterior Ubiquiti bullets.
  • Next week is OSCON. Weekly meeting there is an obvious possibility.
