The Personal Telco Project runs the #ptp channel on irc.personaltelco.net.

Browsers like Mozilla will allow you to paste the following URL into it (assuming that you have ChatZilla installed):
irc://irc.personaltelco.org/ptp

Irssi

# Standard connection
/connect irc.personaltelco.net

# For an SSL (self-signed cert) connection
/connect -ssl irc.personaltelco.net 7000

# For an IPv6 connection
/connect -6 irc.personaltelco.net

Java Client

If you don't have any IRC software installed, you can quickly access the channel by clicking on the "Live Chat" tab at the top of the page.

Netcat

# With netcat? Why?

Another very popular general wireless channel is #wireless on irc.freenode.net. Not to be confused with irc.personaltelco.net, they are two separate networks.
