The official node map currently resides on the PdxWireless site and is maintained by ZetanGelbard and CaseySpain. If you are interested in setting up a node please go to the [http://www.pdxwireless.org/ node map] to see who is near you and enter your location on the maps. Note this map is Flash-based. There is an alternate, experimental mapping system called [http://www.pdxwireless.org/blastbase blastbase] that is GIF based. Blastbase is maintained by DonPark.

Please enter your information even if you don't have an access point up yet as it will help people near you find you and encourage people to get started.

The mapping software we use is Flash based and written by CaseySpain. You can find out more about it at CaseysMappingSoftware (until it gets a name!).

Mapping Thoughts:

[http://www.geocode.com/scripts/eagle/eagle.pl?cmd=td_i Geocode.com] appears to use the NAD27 datum. GPS users should switch their unit to NAD27 before reporting their location to make sure everyone is using the same datum. The USGS DRGs are also on NAD27. Mapblast also uses the NAD27 Datum.

Regarding the problem with point locations becoming more distorted the farther from the center of the map: do we really need very big maps in the first place? The range of most connections is going to be a few miles at most. --BillHolmstrom

  • The new mapping software that Casey is working on will dynamically stitch maps together so as you move to the edge of one map it will transfer you to the next one. It will also allow you to zoom in and out it's in these circumstances where it becomes an issue. For local static maps I agree it's not a significant concern. -- AdamShand

Australian Node DB...

http://www.nodedb.com covers most places in Australia by MapBlast pages as well as elevation data that was purchased.
