-- DanRasmussen <<DateTime(2012-03-10T18:52:17-0800)>> This page seems "[[NeedsUpdate|not great]]"... An AcceptableUseAgreement defines what use of some product or service is acceptable. In terms of NoCatAuth and free community wireless networks, this is a cover-our-butts move, so the standard issue threat to the internet script kiddies, and purveyors of kiddie porn don't use our connections, get busted, and get ''us'' busted. Read your [[ISP]]'s policies for sharing bandwidth, or TermsOfService agreement, whatever they call it. This is a good example. Just what is allowed, what isn't. NoCatAuth makes sure they have to know this, before they can use the connection. |
An AcceptableUseAgreement is a statement by a service provider about what constitutes acceptable use of the service. Typically users must accept the AUP in order to use the service. Some service providers have more liberal freedom-respecting AUP's than others. Comcast is an example of a service provider with a particularly freedom-hating AUP. We recommend avoiding them when at all possible. Generally speaking, local ISPs have more freedom-respecting AUPs than behemoth national ISPs.. |
